While PD is a dialysis modality that you do yourself there is a team of people who will support you and help you get the best treatment possible.
Your PD Team
Each hospital, kidney clinic or dialysis center has their own protocol, rules and team members. But the following professionals should be involved in your care whether you are on PD or hemodialysis.
Nephrologist
Peritoneal Dialysis Nurse
Your nephrologist is the final word in your treatment. He or she will oversee everything from your diet to your labs and medications. While you may only see the nephrologist for a few moments when you have your team appointments he or she is kept up to date by the other members of the team.
The PD nurse is typically your go-to person. She's the one who gets your lab results, does your home check, and is available to answer any questions you have about the PD treatment. You will get to know your PD nurse quite well while she is training you for your chosen dialysis modality. She will also take care of your first supply order and let you know how to go about placing future orders. You should see your PD nurse for labs at least once a month while on PD.

Social/Financial Worker
Dietician/Nutritionist
The social/financial work may be one person or two separate people. This team member is there to help make sure you are feeling good about your treatment, help navigate career issues, financial arrangements and overall mental and financial health as you deal with the changes brought on by kidney disease.
Based on your labs and conversations with you your nutritionist will be able to make sure you're getting the right supplements and offer advice on the best diet for you while you are on PD.
